Title:  Part-time Manager at Stroudco, building Stroud’s local food network

After many years of running and building Stroudco from both the front-end (customers, suppliers, orders) and the back-end (admin, book-keeping, accounts) Oliver has given us notice that he would like to gradually reduce his input at Stroudco.

So, we are looking for a new person or persons to pick up the Manager baton, initially working alongside Oliver, ideally by March 2019. This is a role which very much taps into the local Stroudco ecosystem, working with local suppliers and local customers with good potential for growth, particularly in areas of increasing significance such as packaging reduction, online ordering, delivery & collection and ethical food sourcing. Maybe you know someone out there who would like to take this role on ?

You are a fantastic service!” (Customer comment Dec 2018). We have a wonderful pool of volunteers who assist the Manager on Saturday mornings both to sort orders and to oversee their delivery or collection from our Hub next to the Sub Rooms in Stroud. The role has been managed by Oliver on his own but could equally be operated by a rota of people taking turns or a dedicated couple sharing the workload – we are open to suggestions.

I was surprised by how easy the ordering system was” (Customer feedback, Dec 2018). As a Not-for-Profit organisation Stroudco aims to break-even. The Manager role is paid at £10 per hour for 10+ hours each week with a current monthly maximum of £400.  There will be opportunities in the future to increase the pay if income from Stroudco grows. Stroudco has recently become the recognised online shopfront for Stroud’s highly-regarded Farmers Market and, following recent in-house market research, several exciting new proposals for improving turnover have also been highlighted for 2019.

I want to support local producers” ”Feeling part of a movement” (Customer comments, Dec 2018). Stroudco is run by a small board of directors who are actively involved in various aspects including marketing, strategy and other practical roles. This is set to continue and the board welcomes applications for the Manager role from people with a variety of skills who want to help, support and build the Stroudco network which is one of the UK’s largest operating food hubs.

We see this as a real opportunity for a social entrepreneur or team who can take the 12+ years of goodwill that the Stroudco Food Hub has built up and the huge support for it within the local Stroud community and continue to develop it as a thriving enterprise.

Applicants need to be:

  • Organised and reliable
  • IT literate
  • Able-bodied
  • Diplomatic and good at building and maintaining relationships
  • Able to remain calm and multi-task
  • Have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Be prepared to work on a self-employed basis

We will be interviewing people for this role in mid-February 2019. Please send your CV and a covering letter indicating your interest in the role by 31st January 2019 to: feedback@stroudco.org.uk

Thank you for your interest and for helping Stroudco to grow to its next stage.
